#FREQUENCIES: The abstract turntablist MARIA CHAVEZ creates a sound art that evokes the unconscious: dizzying timbre changes, random beeps and bubbles, words coming out of nowhere. MARIA keeps her records, her "vocabulary", in a huge sleeveless pile where they can rub against each other and create new organic scratches. She also "sacrifices" records that no longer serve her, transforming them into involuntary samples that overlap. Maria chatted with The NOISE is the Message to tell all these aspects of her work.
