Space Oddity Recollection #16
November 2020
Jeff Gburek
Jeff Gburek is a sound artist, composer, improviser, instrument builder, field recordist. Primarily a guitarist, he threw himself into percussion for a period after studying gamelan music in Bali and Java and built his own hybrid percussion ensemble of free-noise junkyard percussion and world music with oscillators and shortwave radios providing live music for the dance theater project Djalma Primordial Science. Evolving again into prepared guitar and live electronics, eventually integrating piezoelectric units of his own design to harness object resonance, he experiments with found sonospheres, with room and field resonance. Equipment includes small synthesizers, broken electronics, theremin, shortwave radios, walkie-talkies, various wind and percussion instruments, rotary stimulators, samplers, crystals, seashells, stones, skins, bones, ceramics, glass. Over the last few years, works have focused on soundscapes, horspiel, spoken word, text, voice experiments, ecology and climate change themes. At home he plays oud and rebab.
All the pieces presented in the mixtrack are mainly from late 2019 and early 2020 - attempts to create an album with electronics and beats, not in an obvious way, but with some sense of improvisations and structured themes. This was continually sidetracked and interrupted due to the pandemic. Although "Relaxing Ambient Texture" was created only a few weeks ago, and some of the pieces have received special remixes for TeslaFM, they are still works in progress, even if some of them are probably more or less finished.
The selected tracks used in the mix are as follows:
*Usti Nad Labem 11 Floor View Remix
*Ionic Soiree Teslafm Mix by Jeff Gburek
*Relaxing Ambient Texture 890 remix
*Bartok's Channel by Jeff Gburek
*Electro Slackerjawed Rimshots Akimbo by Jeff Gburek
