During the civil war of 1936, more than 400 brigadistas died in the battle of Madrid and were buried in the cemetery of Fuencarral. Once the conflict ended, when the Falangist troops entered the capital and reached the cemetery, the bodies were removed and thrown to the Pardo mountain. In 2021 Vox tried unsuccessfully to remove the monuments and plaques honoring these soldiers.
