The Carabanchel prison, one of the greatest symbols of the repression of the dictatorship, was demolished in 2008 with the agreement of the Ministry of the Interior and the Madrid City Council to build 650 apartments, green areas and a hospital. Today there is only a police complex consisting of the Provincial Alien Brigade, a police station and the Alien Detention Center of Madrid.
